MorisFarms /MORISFARMS S.R.L. SOCIETA AGRICOLA/, Tuscany...

If the map of Italy is now on the table in front of you, then it will not be difficult for you to find the famous region of Italy - Tuscany. Found? On the map, Tuscany looks like a triangle with a base lying on the shore. Seem to be? And nearby is a large island, the largest island of Tuscany - Elba. For its small size, the Elbe is incredibly diverse, it seems that it consists of many small worlds, separated from each other by only a few meters.

It is enough to mention eight communes into which this beautiful island is divided: Portoferraio, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Campo nell'Elba, Porto Azzurro, Rio Marina , Capoliveri , Rio Elba. Each of them looks like a separate small world with its own unique features ...

And from the island of Elba, you can easily get to the shore. But you swim please across the bay straight to the shore, which lies between the cities of Piombino and Punta Ala, to the town of Follonica ... And now you are very close to the winery of MorisFarms, which is only 10 kilometers from the coast.

For generations the Moris family has dedicated itself to agriculture. However, in the last few years, it has focused its interest and specialised in viticulture. Now it devolves all its attention and care to this, finding in it its greatest rewards. The land’s altitude varies from 80 to 100 metres above sea level. The vines are south-westerly located. The Poggio la Mozza vineyards, are located in the DOC area of “Morellino di Scansano”. The Moris family replanted them for the first time in 1995 and replanting still continues to this day. The whole of the Poggio la Mozza area is hilly, and at an altitude of about 100 metres above sea level. Since 2011 both companies are part of the DOC Maremma Toscana.

The questions of "YR" are answered by the Giulio Parentini, owner of the winery MorisFarms

1 - You have a vineyard, there is wine, what would you like to add to this picture? Expand the vineyard, improve the wine, increase sales? If it's not a secret, what are your plans for the future?

  1. Managing our property and making productive our land has been the Moris Family tradition for over 200 years. My cousin, Ranieri Moris, and I (Giulio Parentini) now have the honor and responsibility to continue this tradition. We own two different properties in two different parts of Maremma, Toscana, which gives our company the advantage of diversity. At "Poggio La Mozza" (the sandy soil estate), we are able to produce 2 fine examples of the Morellino di Scansano d.o.c.g. (both the "classico" version and the "riserva" version. While at our historic property near Massa Marittima called "Poggetti", which is a clay soil estate, we focus our attention on our mineral-rich Vermentino, and our other bold reds like Mandriolo, Barbaspinosa, and our flagship wine, Avvoltore. The goal is always to expand our vineyards in both properties as the times allow, balancing variables like demand, regulations, weather, etc. At "Poggetti", we have an agriturismo called Tenuta Poggetti www.tenutapoggetti.com which contains a large apartment complex and several independent villas, each with private swimming pools. We would like to develop the agriturismo business in conjunction with an offering of wine tastings and wine dinners.

2 - Do you prefer (it's important for you) the color of the wine?

Color is always going to be an important factor for our end-users and so it is a source of our pride that we successfully obtain an intense pink for our rosè, brilliant yellows with some green reflection in our whites, and intense ruby reds.

3 - History of the creation of your BIANCO and how much is a bottle, for example, Vermentino?

Our family has a long history of producing white wines (for as long as we've worked the land), but we introduced our Vermentino in 2003. It was initially produced with 10% Trebbiano grapes. Since 2007, however, a 10% of Viogner has been added to it. It has a fresh, mineral aroma, excellent with shellfish and fish in general, as well as white meat like rabbit, pork, and roast poultry. We sell Vermentino by the bottle in our cantina for 9 Euro.

4 - List, if possible, a set (gift box) of four or six own wines (red and white), which, in your opinion, can be worthy of representing your farm

We have wooden gift boxes for an elegant display. The wines I would recommend for representing our farm would be:

Avvoltore IGT Toscana

Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG

Barbaspinosa DOC Monteregio di Massa Marittima Rosso

Morellino di Scansano DOCG

Mandriolo DOC Maremma Toscana Rosato

Vermentino IGT Toscana

5 - And where, besides the winery, can try your wine?

We have 4 wine shops in Maremma: winery, Massa Marittima, Follonica, and Grosseto. We also sell our wines to distributors all over the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia...

6 - Your choice for the "Yellow Road" of white (yellow- your orange) wine? Mandriolo Rosato,

Santa Chiara,Vermentino?

Mandriolo Rosato and Vermentino. Our 2018 vintage of the Rosato will have a new bottle, label and name! We are currently working on the prototype, but hope you will appreciate the new branding!

7 - Can you offer the most impressive view (favorite point) on vineyards or the surrounding landscape

There are too many impressive views at both estates!..

8 - Is it convenient to get to your farm from Follonica, What is this town? Is there a beach there?

Yes! In Follonica, there is a train station well connected to both Roma Fiumicino and Pisa airports. Follonica is beach town that is best appreciated September through November when it is not too crowded. The sunsets are breathtaking! Follonica is about a 10 minute drive from our historic property, Poggetti. Even more impressive than Follonica, however, is Massa Marittima (another 10 minute drive East of Poggetti. Massa Marittima is the gem of Maremma--a medieval village with a wonderful piazza, cathedral dating to 1375, typical cuisine consisting of wild boar and homemade ravioli stuffed with swiss chard and ricotta cheese, plentiful museums, monuments, and impressive arches from the ancient walls of the city.

9 - And what are the "Riserva Naturale Poggio Tre Cancelli"?

It is a natural forest close to us, with nice hike options and good view of the sea.

Very close to us there is nice spa with thermal natural warm water called Calidario.

10 - What kind of platform can you offer for the cultural program "Yellow Road": exhibition space, cinema hall, etc. Or do you have your own cultural projects?

We host traditional lunches and dinners in our grand (but rustic) reception room and garden at Poggetti. It is a great space for entertaining and could be used in several ways to promote cultural programs.

11- Which white wine producer (from Italy or another country) would you recommend for the "Yellow Road"?

I have a friend in prosecco area called Luca Follador producer of il Follo winery
